I experienced a great deal of trauma when my newborn was hospitalized. I remember talking to Dr. Brar for the first time when I was on the bathroom floor at Radys. She helped me through some very dark times when I was postpartum. I felt supported and cared for in a very personal way. She feels relatable as a working mother and empathizes with the stage of life I’m in with two small babies. Her experience as a provider is unmatched. I’ve literally never felt this connection and compassion from a healthcare provider. She treats me as a person and not just a patient. I don’t want to lose her as my doctor. It takes years to build this type of trust. I will try to follow her wherever she goes. I switched from Scripps to UCSD because of the outstanding maternity care, not knowing how much postpartum care I would end up needing. Please do whatever you can to keep Dr. Brar on staff. It is imperative for the health and quality of life for her patients. I feel overwhelming sadness for myself and the countless women she treats. UCSD needs to move forward and not backwards by supporting working mother-physicians and their most vulnerable patient population. I am awaiting a response from administration. I look forward to hearing what type of actions are being taken to support all parties affected.
